Launching a Fully Independent Enterprise IT Environment in Eight Weeks

Industry
Healthcare
Overview
A rapidly growing claims recovery business was operating entirely within infrastructure controlled by its parent organization. Following a corporate carve-out, the company needed to establish a fully independent, enterprise-grade IT ecosystem from the ground up, within a strict 8-week timeline, while ensuring zero disruption to ongoing insurance claims operations.
Challenges
The company had no independent infrastructure of any kind. Every system lived inside Intellivo's platforms, and the separation deadline was legally fixed, leaving no room to phase the work or absorb delays.
- No company-owned tenant, subscription, or identity environment of any kind
- 82 users, 215 guest accounts, and ~2 TB of data locked inside a shared parent-owned M365 tenant
- 80 endpoints enrolled in and managed by Intellivo's device management platform
- 24 Azure VMs, databases, and storage entirely within Intellivo's Azure subscription
- Hyland OnBase on external third-party hosting, never previously deployed in Azure
- All SaaS platforms authenticated against Intellivo's identity environment
- Legally fixed 8-week deadline with no buffer
The Solution
Sigma Solve executed a full-stack migration across seven parallel workstreams, beginning with a dependency assessment before any migration activity started. The approach: build and validate the target environment first, migrate in controlled waves, confirm functionality before decommissioning the source.
- Identity-first foundation: New Microsoft Entra ID tenant provisioned with MFA, SSO, Conditional Access, and RBAC enforced before any user cutover
- M365 migration: 82 users, 215 guest accounts, ~2 TB of SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and all mailboxes migrated in structured waves with uninterrupted mail flow
- Endpoint re-enrollment: All 80 devices offboarded from Intellivo's MDM, re-enrolled into a new companies Intune tenant, and fully re-provisioned, no hardware replacement
- Azure infrastructure: New subscription built from the ground up with full governance and security baselines; 24 VMs, SQL databases, Logic Apps, and Storage Accounts migrated using lift-and-validate
- OnBase to Azure: 5 VMs moved from external hosting into Azure for the first time; full document repository transferred, Entra ID auth reconfigured, Salesforce integration rebuilt
- Reporting platforms: Power BI, SSRS, and Azure SQL reporting databases transitioned with full validation before any source connection was cut
- SaaS reconfiguration: SSO and identity updated across Salesforce, MuleSoft, RingCentral, SRFax, and KnowBe4
Outcome
In 8 weeks, the company went from owning nothing to operating a fully independent, enterprise-grade Microsoft environment, secured identity, managed endpoints, governed cloud infrastructure, and live integrations across every critical platform. Zero operational disruption. No residual ties to Intellivo. A modern Microsoft-native foundation, fully under companies control.
